The Bear

By: Alex Zamesin

Artist Statement

This sculpture embodies the contrast between struggle and hope, hardship and joy. Crafted from recycled tires, the bear sits atop a broken wheel—symbolizing the weight of life’s challenges and the obstacles we face. Yet, despite this, it plays the accordion, filling the air with music, seeking light in darkness, and finding joy in the midst of uncertainty. By repurposing discarded materials, I aim to breathe new life into what was once forgotten, transforming waste into a statement of perseverance and renewal. The bear’s music is a reminder that even in difficult times, we have the power to create, to find beauty, and to embrace the melodies that uplift the soul.
