Pottery Basics: A Two-Day Workshop for Beginners on the Pottery Wheel | September 23rd & 24th
Time: 9:30 am-3:30 pm with Lunch Break

This two-day hands-on workshop is designed for beginners who want to learn the basics of working with clay on the pottery wheel. Participants will learn from ceramicist Ben Roti, how to center clay, throw basic forms such as cylinders and bowls, and trim and finish their pieces. Day one of the workshop will focus on learning the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel, while the second day will be dedicated to decoration techniques on leather hard work.
Roti will provide demonstrations and individualized instruction as participants experiment with different techniques and develop their own unique styles. The workshop will be held in a fully equipped ceramics studio, and all materials and tools will be provided. By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained a solid understanding of the pottery wheel and a basic understanding of various surface decoration techniques. (1) 25lb bag of clay provided with the class.
Suggested Supply List: Sketchbook, pencil, water bottle, snack for breaks.
*Although the Pearson Lakes Art Center will provide the following materials, participants may bring their own tools if desired: Throwing sponge, potters’ knife, wooden/metal rib, trimming tools, needle tool, apron, towels, water bucket, brushes, carving materials.
