September 18 & 25: Clay Paint Palettes |
* Two week course: $24 members | $32
Students will learn to use the slab roller to create their very own paint palette! Design your palette in a oval, rectangle, circle or other shape, carve the wells for paint with loop tools and finish by decorating with underglaze paint. Pieces will be left to dry, bisque fired, and finished with a clear glaze firing. Pieces will be ready for pickup in approximately 2.5 weeks after the class.

October 2, 9, 16: Illustrated Animal Burrows

Explore the secret underground homes of hibernating animals! From cozy bear dens to chipmunk tunnels, children will use their artwork to tell an animated story of an animal character in their burrow. Using a cutaway view students will illustrate the inside of an animal burrow, complete with chambers, tunnels, and winter details. They'll bring their burrows to life using gouache paint for bold, colorful backgrounds and watercolor pencils for fine textures and details—all on sturdy, thick paper perfect for painting.

November 6, 13, 20:  Leaf Pile Self Portrait 

Celebrate fall with art and imagination! In this playful mixed media class, students will create a unique self-portrait surrounded by a colorful pile of autumn leaves. On the first day, each child will have their photo taken and printed in black and white. Then, they’ll build up layers of painted leaves using a crayon resist technique with watercolor, giving texture and vibrancy to their leaf piles. Finally, complete the work with trees, wind, or even pumpkins! Register by: October 29th | Maximum: 20 students | Location: Youth Studio
 
 
December 4, 11, 18: Ornament Painting on Canvas

Get festive with paint! Kindergarten through 2nd grade students will create a vibrant acrylic painting of a holiday ornament on canvas. Young artists will learn beginner painting techniques to make their ornament appear 3D by adding shadows and highlights. They'll also add a glowing effect and a blurred green pine branch background to complete their masterpiece.

September 18 & 25: Clay Dominos Set | * Two week course: $24 members | $32

Students will learn to use the slab roller to create their very own full set of the popular game, Dominos! Design your game set in your own custom colors and add as much or as little painted design to each piece with glaze paint. Pieces will be left to dry, bisque fired, and finished with a clear glaze firing. Pieces will be ready for pickup in approximately 2.5 weeks after the class.

October 2, 9, 16: Buildings at Night

In this detailed drawing class, students will create an illustration of a building at nighttime using pen and ink on colored paper. Young artists will explore illustration techniques with Micron pens, colored pencils, and blenders to draw glowing yellow-orange windows and architectural detail. They'll learn how capture the magical contrast of light and shadow in a city at night.

 November 6, 13, 20: Experimenting with India Ink
Get ready to go big and bold! In this 3-session class, students will create a large abstract black and white artwork using India ink. Young artists will explore exciting techniques like wet-on-wet, dry brush, and resist, while using a variety of brushes to make expressive and unique marks. They'll experiment with value changes—learning how to shift the ink from deep black to soft gray. To finish off their powerful compositions, students will add a surprise pop of color for a creative twist!

 December 4, 11, 18: Cloud Painting on Canvas

Let your imagination soar as you explore how to paint clouds in all shapes and forms using both acrylic and watercolor paints. We'll practice different types of clouds—fluffy, wispy, stormy, and more. Guided step-by-step by the instructor, students will work on preliminary practice pages before creating a final 8x10 big sky painting that captures the beauty and drama of the sky.

September 16 & 23rd: Clay Cylinders & Scenes | * Two week course: $24 members | $32

Students will roll out clay with a slab roller, smooth, and connect pieces to create a cylinder vessel approximately 10” in height. Using underglaze, students will use the clay cylinder like a canvas to paint a landscape scene from any season with underglaze paint. Pieces will be left to dry, bisque fired, and finished with a clear glaze firing. Pieces will be ready for pickup in approximately 2.5 weeks after the class.

October 7, 14, 21: Drawings at Dusk

Create an illustration of a building with detailed architecture at night using pen and ink on toned paper. Artists will explore illustration techniques with Micron pens, colored pencils, and blenders to draw glowing yellow-orange windows and architectural detail. They'll learn how to capture the magical contrast of light and shadow in a city at night.

November 4,11, 18: Landscapes with India Ink

In this 3-session class, students will create a large semi-abstract landscape using India ink. Young artists will explore exciting techniques like wet-on-wet, dry brush, and resist, while using a variety of brushes to make expressive and unique marks. They'll experiment with value changes—learning how to shift the ink from deep black to soft gray. December 2, 9, 16: Trees with Oil Paint

In this immersive 3-session class, teen artists will explore the perspective of looking up into the treetops and bring it to life using oil paints on canvas. Students will learn how to create texture, depth, and light through layering, brushwork, and color mixing techniques. By focusing on composition and the natural shapes of branches and leaves, they’ll capture the feeling of standing beneath a towering tree canopy.
