Art Club | Grades 3-6th

Tuesdays, 2:30-3:30pm or 4:00-5:00pm | 3-week course | Members $36, Non-Members $48

September 6, 13, 20: Owl Wheel Thrown Vessels

Learn the basics to wheel throwing in this 3-week course! Beginners will learn what tools are necessary for wheel throwing, learn to center, open, and form walls to create 2-3 clay pieces, one of which we will turn into a clay owl vessel! Pieces will be left to dry & kiln fire and ready for pick up approximately 2 weeks after class. Register by August 31st.

October 4, 11, 18: Fall Still Life Painting

Students will create their very own fall still life using pumpkins, leaves, and other cozy items! On canvas, students will learn how to "draw" with paint, followed by layering and mixing acrylic colors to complete their seasonal painting. Register by September 28th.

November 1, 8, 15: Clay Barns & Silos

Make a piece of the Iowa landscape by creating a hand-built barn and silo out of clay slabs! Pieces will be left to dry & kiln fire and ready for pick up approximately 2 weeks after class. Register by October 26th. 

November 29, December 6, 13: Drawing Faces

Take your face drawing to the next level! Students will learn how to transition those "round faces" to more lifelike portraits by learning simple techniques in their very own sketchbook they get to keep!

September 7, 14, 21: Tall Pottery

Students will learn the basics to using the pottery wheel and focus on creating a cylinder form. Multiple wheel thrown pieces will be made and joined to create a taller piece of pottery! Pieces will be left to dry & kiln fire and ready for pick up approximately 2 weeks after class. Register by August 31st.

October 5, 12, 19: Fall Oil Painting 

Beginner Oil painters will create their very own fall still life using pumpkins, leaves, and other cozy items! On canvas, students will learn how to "draw" with paint, learn what mediums to mix with oil paint, followed by layering and mixing colors to complete their seasonal painting. Register by September 28th.

November 2, 9, 16: Clay Buildings

Bring out your inner architect as we explore how to turn clay slabs into various kinds of buildings! Pieces will be left to dry & kiln fire and ready for pick up approximately 2 weeks after class. Register by October 26th. 

November 30, December 7, 14: Drawing Head & Facial Features

Take your face drawing to the next level by learning human head and facial proportions. Students will receive their own sketchbook and learn how to more accurately draw the human head as well as each facial feature to begin to fine tune their drawing skills!

September 8, 15, 22: Hand built Pottery

Coil, roll slabs, slip & score, add texture, carve, and glaze paint in this 3-week class all about handmade pottery! Pieces will be left to dry & kiln fire and ready for pick up approximately 2 weeks after class. Register by August 31st.

October 6, 13, 20: Fall Still Life Painting

This class is sure to get your mouth watering with Halloween Candy as the subject matter! Students will arrange candy in a still life where they will learn to see the shapes, shadows, and highlights- drawing them on a dark paper with bright colors to make "almost edible" artwork! Register by September 28th.

November 3, 10, 17: Clay Village

Make a piece of the rural landscape by creating many small (approx. 2.5" tall) hand-built houses, building, and barns. Students will learn to use the slab roller and slip and score pieces together creating a little village of ceramic pieces they can use for creative play at home! Pieces will be left to dry & kiln fire and ready for pick up approximately 2 weeks after class. Register by October 26th. 

December 1, 8, 15: Facial Expressions

In their very own sketchbook, students will learn how to draw facial expressions and how our mouth changes, eyes and eyebrows, and our entire face! Students will observe themselves in a mirror and learn simple techniques to drawing happy, excited, sad and more!
