Fall 2023 Youth Education Classes

Mini Michelangelo’s | K-2nd | Thursdays| 2:30-3:30 or 4-5 pm

September 7, 14, 21: Flower & Leaf Mandala - Students will create mandalas by collaging real pressed flowers and leaves on dark, large-scale paper. Students will also learn to draw plants with a fun half & half-drawing activity!

October: 5, 12, 19: Tic, Tac, Toe in Clay! - Add to your board game collection with your very own handmade Tic Tac Toe game made from clay! Students sculpt pieces with a theme, followed by glazing. Projects will be left to dry/fire in the kiln and will be ready to pick up approximately 2.5 weeks after class. Please note that pieces must be picked up within two months, no shipping is available.

*November: 9, 16: Warm and Cool Landscapes - Students will mix a variety of tints and shades of warm and cool colors as we learn how to identify warm vs. cool tones. Artwork will be completed on canvas in acrylic paints.

November 30, December 7, 14: Holiday Lights Still Life - Get in the holiday spirit as we learn to draw ornaments and lights! Students will use oil pastels to fill in colors as we learn how to make things look shiny, blend colors, and learn to “see” with artists’ eyes.

September 5, 12, 19: Nature Collage - Create artwork from nature! Within three sessions, students will learn how to press plants, design with nature, and adhere pieces onto a dark background paper perfect for framing!

*November 7, 14: Warm and Cool Lanterns - Create a late autumn/early winter scene in this two-session class using acrylic paints. Students will mix tints and shades of cool and warm colors to create contrast in their artwork focused around outdoor street lanterns, fall colors, and the first snowfall. 

November 28, December 5, 12: Holiday Still Life in Colored Pencil - Get in the holiday spirit as we learn to draw ornaments and lights! Students will use colored pencils to fill in colors as we learn how to make things look shiny, blend colors, and learn to “see” with artists’ eyes.

September 6, 13, 20: Pressed Plant Collage - Create a detailed landscape scene using plants, leaves, and sticks! Within three sessions, students will learn how to press plants and adhere design onto a dark background paper perfect for framing!

October 4, 11, 18: Wheel and Hand-built Chess/Checkers - Design your very own chess/checkers game made from clay! Students sculpt pieces with a theme with a mix of hand-building and wheel throwing, followed by glazing. Projects will be left to dry/fire in the kiln and will be ready to pick up approximately 2.5 weeks after class. Please note that pieces must be picked up within two months, no shipping is available.

*November 8, 15: Fall Nightscape - Create a late autumn nighttime scene in this two-session class using acrylic paints. Students will mix tints and shades of cool and warm colors to create contrast in their artwork focused around outdoor street lanterns.

November 29, December 6, 13: Ornament Still Life in Oil - Get in the holiday spirit as we learn to paint ornaments and lights with oil paint! The instructor will demonstrate how to use oil paint and which tools are needed vs. acrylic paint. Students will set up a still life of their own and paint as they learn to “see” with artists’ eyes. This course will have an emphasis on properly using oil paints, creating rounded forms with paint, and the power of shadows.

 

$36/ $48 for a 3-week course *unless otherwise noted (November classes are 2-weeks)

Participants must register by the Wednesday one week before the class, no exceptions.  Registration is based on what grade your child is going into in the 23-24 school year.
