June 7 & 8 | Milt Heinrich Inspired Paintings
Using acrylic paints on canvas, students will create a landscape or cityscape painting inspired by painter Milt Heinrich while discussing the use of primary colors.
June 14 & 15 | Clay Sculpture Carving
In this two-day workshop, students will begin with a 2lb block of clay where they will learn the process of reduction carving. Pieces will be underglazed by the student and left to dry, where they will be kiln fired and ready to pick-up within two weeks.
June 21 & 22 | Chihuly “Glass” Flowers
Using recycled CDs, sharpies, and a toaster oven- participants will discover how to make Dale Chihuly inspired “blown glass” flowers and attach them to a painted wood panel.
July 5 & 6 | Coil Design Bowls
The instructor will guide students through the process of rolling strong, even coils with clay in this two-day workshop. Students will learn how to turn their coils into a medium-sized bowl creating designed with spirals, braiding, and curved lines. Pieces will be finished by painting with underglaze and left to dry, where they will be kiln fired and ready to pick-up within two weeks.
July 12 & 13 | Mixed Media Fish
Participants will use a basic wood shape and choose from a variety of gathered objects to attach, paint, and alter to create their own aquatic creature. Unique fish sculptures, by artist Mary Ament, will be on display in the Weaver Lobby at the PLAC and the source for our inspiration for this two-day workshop.
July 19 & 20 | Silly Portraits
Using photography, students will pose for their portrait upon arrival to be printed and collaged onto heavy-weight paper, and add silly things such as top hats, bows, guitars, and more from the imagination! Freeform shape pieces painted in acrylics will adorn the backgrounds creating the silliest, most memorable portrait you ever did see!
July 26 & 27 | Pastels & Chalk
Outside Students will use oil pastels and chalk pastels on board as we explore the grounds of the PLAC and the process of Plein Air, or painting out in the open. Although shade and water will be provided, a hat is suggested as well as sunscreen. In case of implement weather, students will be located in the atrium.
August 2 & 3 | Still Life Painting
Discover the process of acrylic painting in this two-day workshop as you create a still life painting of real flowers, fruits, and vegetables inspired by the painter, Anna Youngers.
