Heads Up!
December 1, 2011 - February 25, 2012
Reception: December 1, 5:00 - 7:00 pm
Monte Pearson Gallery
Eyes. Noses. Ears. Mouths. Different sitters, different artists. Shapes, textures, and colors create a language that we recognize as the human face.
The Pearson Lakes Art Center has many examples in our Permanent and Managed Collections of this subject. Just like Face to Face in our ArtSmart Interactive Gallery, viewers will be surrounded by many different interpretations of the human portrait and figure to consider.

Renee Couture: Shadow Effects
October 13 - December 31, 2011
Reception: October 13, 5:00 - 7:00 pm
John and Karen Goodenow Gallery
Shadow Effects will be a multi-media installation of photographs, sculpture, video and drawings. This installation is in response to Couture's current events in her community of Glide, OR - and will turn the Goodenow Gallery into an environment that the viewer will have to explore in order to observe and interpret.
The public library in my community may close. I see the public library as a democratic space, one that allows people access to information through a variety of means.....I want to marry the history of the library to the history of the O & C Lands - the histories of two public places that once had a direct connection.

The art of the Soviet era ranged from classical to expressionistic and is often described as Soviet Realism depicted in an impressionistic style. In the 1930's the Soviet Union commissioned its most gifted artists to portray the utopia they believed Communism would achieve.
A few exceptional artists won the coveted title of "Honorable Artist." Most of the artists represented in this collection have been so honored.

Art can be found outside of the center as well!
Sixteen sculptures are located on the art center grounds and also on the bike trail leading to the Dickinson County Nature Center. Stop by to see the bronze sculptures by Gary Price (located near the gazebo) along with the many colorful pieces that surround the building, including the very bright (and large!) Edward Hopper, just behind the PLAC. A Sculpture Trail brochure is available at our front desk and also in the brochure boxes located along the trail.
