After this workshop, you will be able to create beautiful, crisp close-up images of jewelry, collectibles, flowers, toys, crafts, or any small item, with the help of local photographer, Jim Prochaska. Jim will help you produce quality “larger than life” photos for eBay, work presentations, school or church projects, insurance records, special gifts, or to display in your home or office. It’s a snap using the techniques, tips, and tricks presented in Jim’s easy to use manual Photography Made Easy!, which will be provided, on disk to each student.
Teacher Re-certification credit may be available.

World of Watercolor

Follow Johan Thunberg into the world of watercolor! In this 5 day workshop, you will learn the technical elements of mixing water and color together to make a painting. Johan’s technique is to begin with dark colors and then add light colors. Johan will teach you the importance of having a “friendship” with your paper, watercolor, and all other materials.
Johan Thunberg is a Swedish artist who has mastered the use of light and color in his landscape watercolor paintings. This workshop will coincide with his exhibit in the Monte Pearson Gallery from May 9 to July 19.

Fundamentals of Collage
Instructor: MADAI
July 28 - 30, 10am-4pm
Cost: M$125 & NM$150
Come to the Pearson Lakes Art Center and let MADAI share his collage techniques with you! MADAI will teach the fundamentals of collage, starting from an abstract perspective. He will begin by reviewing and discussing collage works by other artists. MADAI will then instruct students on a basic approach to starting a collage. On day two, MADAI will demonstrate how to assemble a painting collage, by adding acrylic paint to a finished collage. Students are asked to bring shoeboxes and a designer shopping bag to class. All other materials will be provided.

This is a chance to use PLAC studios to create your own artwork! Bring your own materials, and work on your own projects. This is not a class, but rather an opportunity to expand your own working techniques. Materials for still-lifes will be available for painting and drawing.
Summer artist lecture series
The Lectures will be held in the Lauridsen Performing Ars Theatre from 6-7pm one Thursday night each month during the summer. The artists will show slides or digital images and talk about themselves, their work, and their processes.

If you liked the books The DaVinci Code and Girl with a Pearl Earring, this reading group is for you. We will be reading fictional books that involve art history. The group will read one book each month and meet at the end of the month for discussion.
