Russian and Soviet Impressionism
GALLERY OPENED summer 2007
The art of the Soviet era ranged from classical to expressionistic and is often described as Soviet Realism, depicted in an impressionistic style. In the 1930’s the Soviet Union commissioned its most gifted artists to portray the utopia they believed Communism would achieve. A few exceptional artists won the coveted title of
‘Honorable Artist’. Most of the artists represented in this collection have been so honored.
